Molo Member of Parliament Jacob Macharia wants president Kenyatta and is Deputy William Ruto to fulfill the pledges they made to internally displaced persons during the campaigns for the 2013 general elections.
Speaking on Friday when he donated food stuffs to IDP’S in Molo, Macharia said that the president and his deputy must move with speed to resettle all IDPS still living in camps before the 2017 general elections.
Macharia said that it was saddening to see Kenyans still living in camps, seven years after they were displaced from their homes.
“We have had two governments since 2007/2008 chaos and we still have people living in camps. President Kenyatta and his deputy promised IPDs that they will be resettled and we are still waiting for that to happen,” said the MP.
“We are tired of donating food all the time to people who can fend for themselves if they can only be given a land of their own,” said Macharia.
He added that it would be bad for the 2017 general elections to find the IDPS still living in camps, and called on the president to make good his promise and move the IDPs from the camps.
“2017 is just two years away and I wonder what we will tell this people if the next election will find them still in camps. I believe the president will fulfill his promise but I want to request him to hasten the process,” he said.
Despite the Kibaki government having done a lot to resettle internal displaced persons, some of them are still living in tents in some parts of Rift valley including Molo, Njoro and Kuresoi.
