Naivasha Member of Parliament John Kihagi has asked the county government to help young people start businesses.
Speaking at Naivasha town on Thursday, the MP said that young people need to be guided and enlightened on the kind of projects they wish to start. He said the youths applying for development funds need to be sensitised and trained before being given funds to start businesses.
“I want to ask the national and county governments to ensure youths seeking development funds are trained on how to invest them. Some youths are likely to misuse the funds if they are not trained adequately,” he said.
At the same time, the MP urged youths in the constituency to seek development funds from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for them to start businesses.
The MP stated that youths can change their fortunes if they seriously take up the opportunities being provided by the government. He added that he is keen to ensure young people in the sub county are empowered in order to fight poverty, crime and unemployment.
He said that instances of crime and poverty are high as a result of unemployment among the youths, adding that there is need for appropriate measures to address unemployment.
