Makau said certain individuals from the town had encroached into Mavoko Stadium and constructed residential houses knowing very well that the land is meant for public utility.

“I am putting those people who are grabbing Mavoko Stadium’s land on notice to stop it because their days are numbered,” said Makau.

He cautioned members of the public against being duped by the grabbers to buy parts of the land since they do not own it.

Makau said the structures already erected on the land will be demolished to pave way for modernization of the stadium to national standards.

He said his office will liars with Football Kenya Federation to ensure condition of the facility which is the only public utility in the sub-county is adversely improved.

“We are already in talks with the federation’s President Nick Mwendwa who has hinted out that the organization will allocate the Mavoko Stadium Sh15 million for its modernization,” said Makau.

“This year we are putting up toilets using CDF so that national events are done here,” said Makau.

Makau said the grabbers had interfered with the original size of the stadium thereby limiting operations on the public utility.

He said the culprits should willfully move out of the land early enough before they are forcibly pushed out of it in quest to regain original size of the stadium during its modernization.

Makau also cautioned the residents against vandalizing facilities in the stadium for personal reasons.

“I have personally donated two football goal posts completed with nets already erected in the stadium to promote sports among the youth since there were none before, they should not be vandalized for scrap metals,” said Makau.

He said security officers from Athi River sub-county should be on look out for those fond of vandalizing public facilities.

Makau said the culprits should be apprehended and exposed to full force of the law.

He addressed the press in Athi River town on Monday.
