A Nyamira County elected Member of Parliament has asked police to arrest anyone selling land in the region.
Borabu MP Ben Momanyi called on Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru to order police to arrest Nyamira locals selling their land to foreigners and residents because people have been sold most of the land they inherited from their parents.
“It is time police should arrest anyone selling land to use the money to consume alcohol. Locals have sold land carelessly to foreigners something that has left several suffering without land to cultivate and grow crops to get food," he said.
He said anyone with the intention to sell land in the county should be flushed out from the region.
“Land must be respected because our children will also need the same land to cultivate in future and do their farming activities.
"Those with intentions to sell lands should be sent away from the region. The spirit of selling land in Nyamira must end,” he added.
He said land grabbers have been taking advantage of poor Nyamira locals to buy land using the back door and giving out cheap money to acquire huge hectares of land.
