Kuresoi South MP Zakayo Cheruiyot has urged Parliamentary Lands Committee to trade carefully as it tries to solve the land dispute at the Sirikwa settlement scheme in Kuresoi.
Cheruiyot said that Kuresoi being a cosmopolitan constituency, the Committee should avoid being political when addressing theissue in the area and should seek input of all tribes and communities in the area before starting to issue out title deeds.
Speaking in his constituency office on Tuesday, Cheruiyot said that focusing on one particular community in addressing the land problem in Kuresoi will create more trouble.
“The Parliamentary Lands Committee was here over the weekend and I want to thank them for moving in to solve the land problem in Kuresoi, but they should be very keen when finding a solution to the problem because giving preference to one community over other communities will create more conflicts,” feared Cheruiyot.
He added that if the Committee decides to issue out title deeds then all the residents of Sirikwa scheme from all tribes should get the title deeds,” added the MP.
Cheruiyot’s remarks came days after the Parliamentary Lands Committee lead by Alex Muiru toured the area to seek public views about the issuance of title deeds to squatters living at the Sirikwa farm.
