Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a has criticised the National Super Alliance (NASA) plan to deploy 50 youths in every polling station as election ‘monitors’ claiming that the move is a plot to cause chaos.
According to the Thika MP, NASA is not committed to peaceful August 8 general election and wants to ignite chaos.
She further claims that NASA wants to instil fear among Kenyans as the country heads to the polls.
“NASA’s plan to deploy youths as election monitors to polling stations during the August polls is a recipe for chaos,” she said as quoted by the Star.
The MP asked NASA to give the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission time and space to conduct the general election.
She said that NASA’s interference with IEBC work is a sign that the alliance has sensed defeat.
“Raila Odinga and his NASA team should keep off IEBC and allow the commission to deliver credible polls,” she added.
The Thika lawmaker also hit out at NASA over its plan to establish a parallel tallying centre terming it unconstitutional.
Ng’ang’a warned NASA leaders against making statements that could trigger violence.
On Monday, the IEBC warned NASA saying that the alliance has no constitutional right to establish a parallel tallying centre.
The electoral commission is expected to meet NASA leaders on Thursday to discuss key issues in regards to August 8 election management.
