Cheboi said more often than not, alcohol addicts in the area have been subjected to harsh treatment and mob justice.

He advised them to stop judging and instead help them take back their lives to a good point.

“It is not proper to take action into your own hands and institute punitive measure when you find someone drunk by the roadside because this is not a crime, it sickness which we should all join hands and help those suffering from it recover,” he said when he addressed his constituents on Thursday,.

The MP also said the community should help such people get to the authorities who should take them to rehabilitation centres.

“If you find him drunk by the roadside, do not beat him up or send him away. Take him to relevant authorities who will take him to rehabilitation centre and get his life back,” stated Cheboi.

Lack of support from community members has worked against many addicts as they feel unwanted and end up drowning their sorrows in alcohol as nobody wants to associate with them.

Mary Kamau, a psychologist has advised that such people should be showed a lot of love as it will help in their rehabilitation process.
