Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu has accused her rivals of allegedly engineering corruption allegations against her with the aim of tarnishing her name ahead of the August 8 general election.

Mbalu claims that her close rivals are out to malign her name and prevent her from seeking re-election in the August 8 polls.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, Mbalu dismissed reports linking her to alleged misuse of Constituency Development Fund (CDF)

Ms Mbalu says  that a corruption report and a letter from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) being circulated that she misappropriated CDF funds is fake.

“They (rivals) are out to mislead my supporters and tarnish my re-election bid,” she said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

The MP said that the corruption report which claims that she allegedly appointed CDF committee members is not authentic.

“What they (rivals) don’t know is that that an MP is not allowed to appoint or nominated CDF committee members,” she added.

The report questions the MP’s role in purchase of land for Masongaleni secondary school among other projects.

The MP said that her re-election bid is on course urging locals to trash the graft allegations being leveled against her.
