Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has revealed why the Jubilee Party whats him out as the National Assembly Agriculture Committee chairman.
He claimed that the party wants weak committee chairs whom they can compromise through bribes.
“There are some cartels interested in importation of fertilizers and sugar at the expense of the local farmer, that’s why they don’t want me to be there since it is somebody's cash cow. I respect the party leadership but the trend we are taking is not good since it will bring dictatorship,” he said in Eldoret town, Monday.
“It is demeaning for the executive to determine who will be the chair of a particular committee, this is totally killing parliament’s independence in which it will be hard to do our oversight role,” he added.
He, however, urged President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to respect them since they were duly elected.
“I just want to ask President Kenyatta, how will he feel if he is told to resign in favor of the opposition leader Raila Odinga yet he was duly elected? I know he won’t accept and that what I am also doing,” noted Tiren.
