Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has revealed why there is a low admission of form one students in the entire Uasin Gishu.
He said most parents are farmers and delivered their maize to National Cereals and Produce Board and up to now, they have not been paid.
“It is sad that only 52 percent of students have been admitted to join form one in various schools in the county just because NCPB has not paid farmers their dues for them to take their students to school,” he said in Eldoret town after meeting primary and secondary school principals from his constituency, Monday.
“I want to urge the national government through the treasury to quickly release the funds for farmers to pay their children and further delay will mean their children will not go to school. I call upon the acting Cabinet Secretary for Education Fred Matiangi to extend the admission dates up to 1st February,” he added.
He, however, urged parents with bright and needy students from a poor background to apply for bursaries for them to be assisted in paying their children’s fees.
