The Muslim Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has condemned Members of Parliament who have expressed opposition to the reduction of their salaries as recommended by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
CIPK Uasin Gishu branch chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini termed the MPs advocating to higher salaries as greedy.
Speaking in Eldoret, Thursday, Bini expressed concern over the MPs zeal to have their salaries increased even before they are sworn in.
He warned that religious leaders might be forced to rally Kenyans to participate in demonstration to demand for the removal of the MPs unhappy with SRC's salary package.
"It's so unfortunate and heartbreaking that the leaders we recently elected have quickly forgotten what their mandate is are already fighting for their stomachs even before they officially begin their work," lamented Sheikh Bini.
"As religious leaders we won't entertain such leaders and we might sensitise citizens to camp at the Parliament buildings and demand for their removal," he added.
In July, the Sarah Serem-led commission released a new salary structure that slashed salaries for state officers from the President to Members of County Assembly including MPs and Senators salary that was reduced from Sh710,000 to Sh621,000.
Sitting allowances paid to members for attending each plenary session and Committee meetings were also scrapped.
