Barely a month after Deputy President William Ruto endorsed shoot to kill orders in troubled Baringo County, two female legislators have backed the move.
In his tour to the county, angry Ruto ordered police to pursue cattle rustling criminals and use force to tame them.
And Joyce Laboso (Sotik) and Beatrice Elachi (Nominated) have since endorsed the order saying it would restore peace in the troubled region.
“We are tired seeing children and innocent women dying. If it means the perpetrators are killed, so be it,” said Laboso, who doubles as deputy National Assembly Speaker in an interview with KTN on Wednesday.
On her part Elachi said: “These bandits are criminals and we cannot wait for courts to save innocent people. They should equally face the fire.”
They were reacting to the latest killings in Baringo in which 10 people reportedly perished after an ambush by suspected bandits.
Despite the government’s commitment towards restoring peace in the region, warring sides are yet to reach a truce.
