Kiambaa residents have been advised to take advantage of the cheap electricity being distributed in the constituency.

Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange said on Friday residents who will fail to pay the Sh15,000 connection fee will be connected to the power grid and allowed to clear their connection arrears later.

The MP who spoke at Kiambaa said the low payments for connections was meant to allow more people get electricity.

He said the development aims at ensuring residents abandon catting trees for wood fuel.

He said the government was committed to ensuring all Kenyans get electricity.

He also said that the move projects at lighting the constituency to reduce crime.

Koinange appealed residents not yet connected to the national grid to use gas instead of wood.

Government recently announced that electricity connection fees had been cut from Sh75,000 to Sh15,000 for people whose houses lie less that 50 metres from the main distribution line.

Residents welcomed the move saying it would help majority of them get access to electricity.
