Some Garissa MPs have threatened to table a motion in Parliament to express their dissatisfaction with the move by Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery  to extend curfew in the area.

The curfew  affects Garissa county residents and the residents of the neighbouring counties of Mandera, Wajir and Tana River.

The curfew, which was put in place following the killing of 148 people by Al Shabaab terrorists at Garissa University College in April, has been extended by one month to give the government more time to restore security in the region.

The MPs led by Garissa County women representative Shukran Gure said the move denies the area residents their freedom of movement and worship adding that it is causing fear among residents.

The MPs were addressing Garissa residents on Saturday during the graduation ceremony of Islamic students at Najah Madrassa.  They also called on the govt to find security solutions in the area in the shortest time possible.

The curfew has been extended from May 17 to June 16.
