Members of Parliament on Thursday evening failed to approve a report by the Committee on Delegated Legislation on the Parliamentary Senate Monitoring and Evaluation 2016.
The report provided procedures for management of funds and regulations and would see Senators allocated a total of Sh1.3 billion in a new kitty proposed and approved by the Senate Assembly.
Senators had drafted the report so as to receive additional funding to continue playing an oversight role of inspecting development projects across their respective Counties.
National Assembly Committee on Implementation of the Constitution opposed the report, saying it contravenes the Constitution by failing to adhere to the management of funds in the Counties.
Speaker Justin Muturi laid the question before the lawmakers, asking whether it should be annulled or approved, with majority of the MPs annulling it.
If MPs were to approve the report, all the 47 Senators would receive a whooping Sh19.5 million each, while nominated Senators would receive Sh3 million each.
MPs and Senators have been in a push and pull war, on matters of finances. Each party has been asking for additional funding to their respective areas, but both dismiss each other's pleas.
