Orange Democratic Movement party (ODM) leaders from Machakos County have backed their leader Raila Odinga on the ongoing constitutional amendment debate.
They said Members of the National Assembly (MPs) earn more than they deserve hence need for the law amendment so as to reduce the salaries and allowances.
Led by the Machakos County branch ODM secretary, Dominic Kaleli, the leaders said the amendment is vital to ensure the MPs powers are reduced.
Kaleli said MPs and MCAs salaries should be slashed arguing that they are overpaid compared to the job they do.
They addressed the press in Machakos town on Friday.
"Why pay MP's close to a million shillings, what do they do to pocket such an amount," Kaleli said.
He said ODM party had embraced the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM chief Raila Odinga adding that, it will be the start of national economic prosperity and stability.
"Now the government will achieve the big four agenda since all parties are eating from one table and reading from the same page," Kaleli added.
Deputy President William Ruto and other leaders had come forward to condemn the call terming it as selfish and set to benefit few individuals.
