Parliament has extended its calendar to allow for vetting of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) nominees.
Parliament passed the motion by Deputy Majority Chief Whip Cecily Mbarire seeking to change the House calendar and push the adjournment from this Thursday to December 14.
Ms Mbarire said the one-week extension would help the House conclude the election of nine representatives to EALA as well as constitute Parliamentary Committees.
The MPs will now resume sittings in February 2018 where they will vet CS and PS nominees to President Uhuru Kenyatta's cabinet.
Speaking on the matter, Senate Deputy Speaker Kithure Kindiki said senators will be recalled for a special House sitting to iron out the matter so as to give President Kenyatta a strong team.
“If the President finds it needful to have his CSs and PSs vetted during the recess, Parliament will be recalled through the right procedure. I don’t rule out the possibility of special sittings because the country cannot wait until February for this crucial process to commence,” Kindiki said.
