A section of leaders from the Rift Valley have faulted police officers over the escalating criminal activities in the region.
Led by Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto, they accused the police of engaging in corruption and allowing free movement within the porous borders, risking the security of the country.
Speaking during a strategic plan launch at the Kapenguria secondary school in Kapenguria, Moroto condemned intelligence officers working in the county, saying they have failed in their duties.
Moroto observed that laxity among the officers was the biggest challenge saying that it provided an opportunity to terrorists to find their way into the country undetected
He however said that if the security agencies continue to lag behind in terms of securing the county from terrorists, they will use their own intelligence to handle any imminent threat they are facing to protect their citizens..
The legislator further cited that corruption led to the Kapenguria police station shooting that saw six police officers killed by one of their own.
He further said government needs to beef up security on road blocks to prevent external forces from infiltrating into the country.
The MP called upon the government to be proactive in order to prevent criminal activities before they happen rather than waiting for them to occur before intervening.
