NASA coalition's ODM party has made a u-turn even as President Uhuru Kenyatta's nominee for the Attorney General position Paul Kihara, appeared before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments for vetting.
Chaired by Speaker Justin Muturi, the Committee on Thursday grilled the Court of Appeal Judge who seeks to succeed Prof Githu Muigai who resigned after serving for five-and-a-half years.
"I have received with regret the resignation of Attorney General Prof. Githu Muigai. I thank him for his service for the last six and a half years. I have nominated as his replacement Judge Paul Kihara Kariuki," Uhuru tweeted, on Tuesday afternoon, February 13, 2018.
Vetting of the nominee at the County Hall saw members of the committee including Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, and Majority Leader Aden Duale participate.
The opposition's NASA coalition Minority Leader John Mbadi of ODM was also present.
Mbadi's participation was a landmark, indicating how the Raila Odinga-led party was ready to work with Kenyatta's administration, following a truce meeting between Uhuru and Raila on March 9.
NASA which comprises of four political parties had cautioned its MPs against participating in the vetting of any of President Uhuru's nominees including cabinet secretaries after he unveiled his second cabinet early this year.
NASA had termed Uhuru's administration illegitimate and that they would never recognise him as president following two controversial presidential elections in 2017.
