There was drama as parliamentarians engaged in a verbal exchange over a bid to block former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru from vying for public office.

National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) members failed to agree on recommendations in the National Youth Service (NYS) scandal report.

One of the recommendations in the report is that Waiguru be barred from holding public office for being implicated in the Sh1.6 billion scandal.

Waiguru is vying for Kirinyaga governor post on a Jubilee Party ticket.

“There were exchanges, including the banging of tables, as some members accused one another of betrayal and having been infiltrated by powerful individuals to let those responsible for the scandal get off scot-free,” a source in PAC committee was quoted by the Standard.

The closed-door meeting nearly degenerated into a physical fight, as some members accused others of giving vague recommendations that did not match PAC’s investigations into the NYS scandal.

Other key government leaders who were mentioned in the scam are: Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, former Devolution Principal Secretary Joseph Mangiti, former NYS Senior Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe and Farouk Kibet, Deputy President William Ruto's personal assistant.

They have all denied the allegations against them.
