A section of leaders drawn from Kisii and Nyamira Counties on Thursday took a swipe against DP William Ruto's 2022 quest despite a number of them pledging to support his bid.
For days now, the DP has been pushing for unity among the community, a move that could suffer a blow following the latest turn of events.
At a requiem mass in Nyamira, Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi warned that the community will not allow President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga's handshake go in vain.
"They made sacrifice and DP Ruto should know that. If at all we must have constitutional changes, let us support it," he said.
Bobaru MP Ben Momanyi said the handshake should be respected by leaders from either side of political divide.
"We all respect our DP but he must also be ready to walk with the rest of the country. That is the only way his bid will be relevant," he added.
Last week, the DP came out guns blazing over a looming constitutional amendment bill, insisting that the country cannot be subjected to a referendum.
Also present were senator Okong'o Mogeni, Joash Nyamoko (North Mugirango), Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and Alfa Miruka.
