Nyeri Town Member of Parliament Wambugu Ngunjiri should immediately drop his petition seeking to remove Chief Justice David Maraga from office, seven MPs from Abagusii community have said.
Led by Deputy Majority Leader in the National Assembly Jimmy Angwenyi, the lawmakers said the petition was in bad taste and was unfairly targeting one of their own.
"We are asking the MP to immediately withdraw the petition or all Kisii leaders will be enjoined in the case. We feel the case is in bad taste and is targeting an individual from the Kisii region," Angwenyi was quoted by the Nation, speaking at the Parliament Buildings on Thursday.
The MPs defended Justice Maraga saying the Supreme Court decision to overturn President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 victory was a collective one and therefore the CJ should not 'carry the cross'.
"Wambugu has no business attacking Justice Maraga. We met the President on Wednesday and he explained his anger to us on the ruling," Angwenyi said.
During the meeting with Abagusii delegation at State House in Nakuru, Uhuru said he had the right to get angry and bitter, given that his win was 'stolen'.
"It is true some of us were really pained, we were hurt. Just imagine someone snatching your victory from you just like that," the Head of State remarked.
In the petition presented to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Wambugu accuses the CJ of gross misconduct, claiming the judiciary has been held captive by a clique of anti-Uhuru NGOs.
