Leaders allied to the Otamba declaration that seeks to unite the Gusii community have yet again been subjected to fierce attacks from a section of legislators from Nyamira County.
The team led by Kisii Senator Chris Obure and former CIC chair Charles Nyachae, has been lobbying for unity among the community though they have been facing resistance from a section of other leaders who accuse them of being Jubilee agents.
And now Nyamira woman representative Alice Chae and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire have questioned the reasons behind the ‘unitary calls’ and accused the leaders of playing ‘diversionary tactics.
“The Gusii community has never been divided because we are one. This is a liberal society where you join the party of your choice I demand to know why they are pushing for the unity when we are approaching national elections,” she said.
“We cannot allow people who have failed to deliver in their constituencies to hide behind a collapsing regime in the name of development. They should go and face the electorate rather than visit State House to receive handouts in the name of unity,” stated Bosire.
He added: “The Constitution gives an avenue for equity in development and this means you don’t have to beg for development in State House. As custodians of taxpayers’ money, we approve the money to be used by the State and so it has an obligation to ensure all areas are served without prejudice.”
