A Jubilee Party MP has called on the international community to pile pressure on Opposition leader Raila Odinga to abandon his plans to be sworn in as 'president' on December 12.

Samburu West legislator Naisula Lesuuda said Raila, 'a losing presidential candidate with a perennial history of not accepting election results', should not be allowed to dethrone President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was democratically and constitutionally elected.

In an opinion piece published by The Standard on Friday, Lesuuda outlined four steps the international community should take to ensure the former Prime Minister gives up his dreams of taking State House by 'violent or unconstitutional means'.

First, the international community must recognise President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was elected with a clear mandate of the people.

"They should make an unequivocal statement that it recognises the electoral and constitutional process, which has led to a clear and undisputed winner in the presidential elections," she stated.

Second, the MP said, the international community should only allow Raila to participate in talks when he officially renounces his claims to the presidency and accepts the will of the people.

Third, there should be no talks or negotiations to discuss the possibility of the NASA leader being involved in a presidential power-sharing agreement.

Lastly, the international community should ensure Raila commits himself to a path of non-violence and unequivocally condemns anyone who commits any act of violence or disobedience in his name.

The MP said that once these conditions are met, talks to end the current political dispute can be initiated.

"If the international community wants to be seen as an honest and legitimate negotiator, then this is the way to end the dispute and help Kenya move beyond the hostage-like situation NASA has created," Lesuuda added.
