A section of MPs from Nyamira County have expressed their dissatisfaction on strategies used by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to fight graft.
The MPs led by North Mugirango’s Charles Geni on Tuesday accused EACC of inefficiency and questioned its independence in the fight against graft.
Mr Geni maintained his intention to have the entire EACC secretariat kicked out, accusing it of failing to live to the expectations of Kenyans.
“EACC has failed Kenyans and I want to assure them that my motion of no confidence in them is in the final stages. I hope my fellow MPs will support it because we are tired of entertaining this ineffective body which seems to be compromised by corrupt people,” he said.
His intended motion was supported by Women Representative Alice Chae, who questioned the role of EACC in clearing the embattled former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru.
“I will be the first one to support the motion of no confidence in EACC once my colleague tables it. This commission is full of propaganda because till today, we don’t understand how they hastily cleared Ms Waiguru over NYS scandal which was far from over. This means that they are fighting corruption with bias,” she said.
Senator Mong’are Okong’o on his part labeled EACC a ‘burden’ to tax payers and demanded its dissolution.
“We cannot keep on paying people who are ineffective and biased. They are a burden to taxpayers and I am fully behind the motion by Mr Geni because that’s the only way we can rescue our country from a commission that lacks objectivity,” he said.
