Under the theme “Sharing our experiences to enhance good governance and continually safeguard the welfare of the nation” the seminar was officially opened by National Assembly leaders led by Speaker Justin Muturi, on Monday, March 5.

This seminar the second of its kind since the promulgation of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, is expected to provide a platform for Members to deal and interact with matters of parliamentary practice and procedure which they might not otherwise have been dealt with in other settings including during the inaugural induction workshop.

The convention seeks to provide them with a better understanding of parliamentary and democratic systems and processes.

The forum will be conducted through plenary presentations by carefully selected resource persons drawn from within the country, the National Democratic Institute and the larger Commonwealth.

It offers Members an opportunity to develop capacity through interactions with the team of panellists on the best Parliamentary practices and procedures on how they can inter-link the current drift on Parliamentary democracy with the realities of Kenya’s current political and constitutional dispensation.

The event would also put in focus conversations around the role of Parliament in the Budget Making Process, Members of Parliament and their place in the society, as well as how the National Assembly can develop strong working relationships with the Senate and other arms of government without compromising its independence.

The Post- Election Seminar guest Speakers include the Rt. Justice (Dr.) Patrick Matibini, SC, MP, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia and Karimulla Akbar Khan, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

It kicked off on Sunday, March 4, 2018 and runs up to Thursday, March 8, 2018, at the Pride-Inn Paradise Hotel, in Mombasa County.

On Monday, key presenters and guests included, Deputy Chief Justice Philemona Mwilu, CPA Secretary General Karim Khan, Deputy Speaker Moses Cheboi, Majority Leader Aden Duale, Minority Leader John Mbadi, Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala, among others.
