It has now emerged that a section of members of parliament from both sides of Jubilee and CORD are lobbying for and pushing former Gichugu MP Martha Karua to apply for the vacant position.

According to one MP from Nakuru County who is part of the team campaigning for Karua to become the next CJ, they have already met Karua and talked to her and she liked the idea.

The MP, who requested not to be named, said that majority of members of parliament from both CORD and Jubilee are in support of Karua because they believe she has the qualities needed to be the chief justice.

“We want Karua to be the next chief justice and we believe she can make a good CJ and we have started the process of lobbying for her to be the next CJ. We are moving around lobbying members of Parliament and even civil society groups to support her and we are also talking to her to go for the big job,” said the MP.

“She has been in the Judiciary before. She is a respected lawyer and has been in politics and that puts her in a good position to be the President of the Supreme Court,” he said.

“We are trying to reach out to the President and CORD leader Raila Odinga to get their views about our proposal and if they support it then we will push Karua to go for the job,” he said.

There have been rumours that Karua is eying the chief justice job but she recently disputed the talk saying that her eyes are fixed on the Presidency.
