A section of legislators from Turkana have dismissed reports that there was a plot to assassinate opposition leader Raila Odinga during his visit to the county last week.
At a press conference on Monday at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, the lawmakers led by Senator John Munyes accused Governor Josphat Nanok of stage-managing the recent incident where rowdy youth disrupted Raila's rally in Lokichar to gain sympathy votes.
They noted that everybody is at liberty to campaign in the county.
"We don't condone violence and Nanok should desist from engaging in drama for sympathy votes. Raila is a national leader, is welcome to Turkana anytime and there was no plot of his assassination," the Star quoted Munyes.
They further challenged the ODM leader to record the assassination claims with the police.
The Opposition has since condemned the attack, observing that Kenya is a democratic state where every citizen has a right to assemble and hold rallies.
Raila escaped unhurt during the Katalie incident.
