A mission by the Parliamentary Health Committee members to inspect the controversial mobile health clinics at the National Youth Service (NYS) grounds in Mombasa turned dramatic after a section of the MPs stormed out.
According to Citizen Digital, the lawmakers, led by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, said the exercise was not fair since they were not allowed to ask questions.
This comes just a day after the committee chaired by Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai which grilled Health CS Cleopa Mailu raised questions over the cost of the mobile clinics which are still in the hands of suppliers who have already received Sh800 million.
Seme MP James Nyikal during Mailu's grilling had demanded that the committee inspects the mobile clinics before a report on the alleged loss of Sh5.2 billion at Afya House is compiled.
“We must visit the site where the containers have been stored for over a year before we come up with our report,” said Nyikal during the session on Thursday as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Businessmen Robert Ngatia Waweru, the co-owner of Lifecare Medics, which imported the mobile clinics, and Paul Wanderi Ndung’u, have denied any wrongdoing as claimed in the leaked interim report.
