According to Marakwet East MP Kangogo Bowen and his Marakwet West counterpart, the government has ignored the plight of Marakwet residents.

"On Friday and Saturday, we will bury three people who were killed this week. As leaders we are wondering why we should keep on singing that we are in government when our people are suffering we cannot continue to stomach this," said Bowen.

He further stated that many people had fled their homes due to increasing insecurity in the region.

"People are now sleeping in caves and the number of widows and orphans is increasing . As leaders we can no longer bear this," he added.

He further challenged the president to halt his 2017 campaigns and visit the region urgently so as to address the current crisis.
