A section of MPs have threatened to sue the Auditor General Edward Ouko, following the released 2014/2015 Financial Year audit report, which showed at least 270 lawmakers mismanaged Sh4 billion from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) kitty in a year.
Led by Garissa Township MP Aden Duale, Mbala-Mbala lawmaker Abdikadir Aden, Starehe's Maina Kamanda, and their Kieni Constituency counterpart Kanini Kega, the lawmakers said the law excludes them from managing funds allocated to the CDF kitty, and that it would be impossible for them to directly access the funds.
They on Tuesday said every shilling spent in the Constituency is accounted for and further dismissed Ouko's report.
The audit report also reveals dubious money-swindling schemes that MPs deployed in their first year in Office to receive funds after the National Treasury allocated Sh23 billion to the Fund.
The audit shows some MPs turned their CDF offices into employment bureaus to create jobs for their cronies.
They also hired consultants at exorbitant rates to design strategic plans for their Constituencies that were neither launched nor publicly distributed.
They also drew irregular sitting allowances, irregularly paid millions to train dozens of boda boda operators how to ride motorcycles, paid for teachers to attend seminars away from their Constituencies, besides awarding multi-million contracts irregularly.
