MPs will get a multi-billion send-off package if their plan in the national assembly goes through.
They say that this will be compensation for the eight months that will be cut off their five-year terms if elections are held in August.
During a meeting of the Budget committee, the Treasury and the salaries commission, they said a “severance pay” must be given to them in lieu of the period they feel entitled to.
During the talks, with SRC boss Sarah Serem and Treasury CS Henry Rotich, the media was asked out.
But it is understood the Parliamentary Service Commission has been asked to form a team to negotiate with SRC and the Treasury to justify the payment.
“It’s a tricky issue. We might have to seek a legal opinion from the attorney-general,” said an MP who sought anonymity, as quoted by the Star.
