A section of Machakos MPs have said that they will only support Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka only if he vies for the presidency in the 2017 General Elections. Speaking at Machakos town on Sunday, the MPs led by Dr Victor Munyaka, the MP, Machakos Town constituency said that their support for Musyoka will be guaranteed only if he goes for the top seat. The MPs said its time for the region to produce one of their own and that will not allow anyone to use them.
“This time round Ukambani will not settle for nothing less than the presidency, we as a region have been used for a long time,” said Munyaka. The Machakos lawmaker urged Wiper Party leader to make his decision of vying for the top seat known to his Cord co-principals.
Munyaka added that Wiper members will strongly rally behind Musyoka if he vies for the seat. Dr Vincent Musyoka, MP, Mwala constituency urged Cord co-principals Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula to endorse Musyoka for the 2017 presidential bid. The Mwala MP said that Cord will easily triumph in the 2017 polls if they rally behind Musyoka as the flag-bearer.
“We as Ukambani leaders want to challenge Cord leaders Raila Odinga and Moses Wetangula to support Kalonzo come 2017,”he said. The Mwala legislator views were supported by his Yatta counterpart Francis Mwangangi who said its time for Ukambani to claim for top leadership.
Mwangangi said that he will rally behind Musyoka if he decides to go for the top seat. Kalonzo’s Wiper Party is a member of Cord with Musyoka being a co-principal to Odinga and Wetangula. Both co-principals have shown and hinted intentions of vying for presidency come 2017 a move that has thrown into the spanner the unity of CORD coalition.
Recently, Odinga launched a personal website that is meant to provide a platform for sharing views with the electorate ahead of 2017. He was also recently quoted as saying that he is not too old to become president. On his part Wetangula has on several occasions indicated his intentions of running for presidency same as Kalonzo.
In a press briefing on Saturday , Kalonzo reaffirmed unity of Cord saying that nothing will separate them going to the 2017 polls. Kalonzo rubbished claims that he is on his way out of cord, saying that the rumours are being perpetuated by their opponents to caused disunity.
