According to the NCDF Board Chairman Elias Mbau, politicians have been directing funds from the kitty to finance invisible projects, which have no tangible impact on the lives of their constituents.

Citing cases where MPs have used the funds to pay for school fees, the board chair faulted such initiatives, saying Sh3,000 awarded to individual students was negligible, and that it could not adequately support a student’s education.

Mbau further said that some MPs were in the habit of spreading the Constituency Development Funds (CDF) too thin with a view of pleasing their constituents, noting that some of the projects initiated for this purpose eventually ended up making no impact on people's lives.

“The various NCDF committees should stay away from trying to appease everyone in the constituency by giving out very little support to each of them, because this will not have any positive impacts,” said Mbau.
