NCIC chairman Francis Kaparo. Photo/Nation.Two MPs have urged NCIC led by Francis Kaparo to stop holding peace forums in Maralal town and instead take the peace meetings deeper to the grassroots.
Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda and Samburu county women rep Maison Leshoomo faulted the Kaparo-led commission for meeting in hotels and boardrooms, saying the commission needs to do more to reach out the warring communities in the deeper parts of the county.
"Warring communities are deep in the villages. Holding meetings purporting to be preaching peace in towns will not help. Peace meetings should be conducted in the remote villages,"said Lesuuda.
She added that NCIC has done too little to ensure peace is restored among the warring pastoral counties.
Leshoomo urged Kaparo to ensure NCIC officers gets into the villages and hold the peace meetings there not in town.
"Herders don't come to town where meetings are being held. The commission's officers should put more efforts by going deep in the villages to meet and hold the meetings with the people", she said.
