Leaders from across the political divide have called on religious leaders to endorse religious leaders to head the embattled electoral team.
Led by MPs, Moses Kuria (Gatundu South), Ayub Savula (Lugari), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo) and Stephen Kariuki (Mathare), the leaders have said that the retired Anglican Church Archbishop, Eliud Wabukala is the best suited to ensure transparency of the electoral process.
The four were speaking at Navakholo, Kakamega County where they said religious leaders are the only transparent agency that all leaders will trust to head the Electoral Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
"The current IEBC is soon going home. We are proposing that Eliud Wabukala head the commission to ensure that the elections are free of irregularities and deliver credible results," said Kuria.
The Gatundu South MP who is a member of the joint parliamentary select committee appointed to find a solution for the IEBC impulse said that the retired Arch Bishop has a good reputation in leadership and will be trusted to bring the expertise in national leadership.
His sentiments were echoed by the four legislators who said that it is only the religious leaders who will be impartial and whom the opposition coalition will trust.
"Election after election some say their votes were stolen. This time, I think it is going to be prudent if we trust the church to head the electoral body. We all trust our religious leaders and we can leave them this national responsibility," said Savula.
The MPs also drummed up support for Eugene Wamalwa to vie for Nairobi governorship.
"Nairobi does not belong to anyone as my brothers think. Wamalwa has handled the water docket which is a National responsibility which he has performed very well. How will it be hard for him to govern Nairobi alone?" Questioned Kuria.
