Members of Parliament (MPs) have until close of business Monday 20th November to declare their assets, sources of income and liabilities to the National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.
In an internal memo quoted by the Business Daily, on Sunday, National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi wants all the legislators to comply with the law and submit all the necessary documents to his office.
"Members of Parliament are reminded that section 27(5) of the Public Officers Ethics Act, requires that every member of the National Assembly submits his or her initial declaration to the Speaker of the National Assembly, " Muturi says in the memo as quoted by 15th the Business Daily.
In addition, the Public Officers Ethics Act requires that the MPs declare their wealth periodically, preferably on annual basis.
"The period is from the previous statement date to the current statement date. For an initial declaration, the period is the year ending on the statement date," part of the form reads as quoted by The Business Daily.
In declaring assets, the legislators are required to disclose ownership of vehicles, buildings, land and other financial obligations owed to them.
