The Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) has denied having links to National Super Alliance (NASA) strategist and economist David Ndi.MRC leaders have maintained that they are not working with opposition leaders in their push for secession. This comes after Ndii was arrested in Kwale on Sunday, November 3 and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Gigiri, Nairobi where he was grilled for hours before being released on a Sh10, 000 police bond.MRC leaders have denied claims by the government that Ndii had traveled to the Coast region to meet members of the group before he was arrested by police.Speaking on behalf of the group, MRC deputy spokesperson Richard Lewa and James Mulembi, an official, said the council is not working with Ndii as claimed by the government. The two further accused the government of attempting to provoke the group.Lewa said MRC is a now a legal group after the court lifted a ban imposed on the group by the government.“We have said several times that MRC is not affiliated to any political outfit. We are independent and we are seeking secession through legal means,” said Lewa, as quoted by The Star.Lewa said MRC is still pushing for the secession of the Coast region, but this time around they are using legal channels.
