The Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) has written to Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa, requesting a meeting to discuss security and the August polls.

In the letter signed by MRC secretary general Nzai Ruwa, the officials have also requested the six Coast county commissioners to attend the meeting.

"We request to meet you and county commissioners from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi,Tana River, Lamu and Taita Taveta counties,” read the letter seen by The Star.

Ruwa said peace and security are among the issues to be discussed in the meeting, if Marwa heeds to their calls.

In a different letter to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the council members distanced themselves from allegations that they have intentions to cause chaos and disrupt the upcoming general election.

They said the reports are being spread by individuals with bad intentions.

This comes after the Court of Appeal lifted a ban on the council in July, last year.
