Elizabeth Ongwae has reiterated her commitment to empower the poor in the community.

Mrs Ongwae said her office has laid down elaborate plans to assist widows and orphans in the society.

She was speaking on Monday at Suneka, Bonchari sub county during a blankets donation exercise to widows.

Bacop, a non-governmental organisation, was part of the initiative.

The Kisii governor's wife said the initiative will be replicated in all the nine sub counties.

She said some of the projects she has initiated included the provision of Coca Cola cooling boxes and start up stock for three women from each ward in the 45 wards of Kisii County, in order to empower them economically and make them financially stable.

This week being the last in the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence, Mrs Ongwae said that women from the grassroots should be educated fully on the dangers of Female Genital Mutilation and also made to understand their rights in the society for they are the ones who suffer most from the vices.
