Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu says his government has signed a deal with Tavevo Water and Sewerage Company to supply water to various parts of the county.
This, he said, is part of his administration's plans to address the water problem in the county."Once the project is complete, it will enhance food production, improve farming activities and ensure residents have access to clean water for domestic use," said Mruttu as quoted by the Nation. He added that the Maungu–Bughuta project will be carried out in partnership with the Kenya Red Cross Society at a cost of Sh40 million.More than 18,000 people are expected to benefit from the project, he added. On the other hand, the Kisambinyi-Konenyi water project, estimated to cost Sh20 million, will benefit more than 15,000 residents. The Kaloleni and Nakuruto water projects whose estimates are believed to be Sh50 million, will serve more than 20,000 people. He said the county, in partnership with foreign donors, also plans to set up a Sh116,000 million banana processing factory. The factory, he added, will be of great benefit to residents through job creation as well as provide a ready market for their produce.Drilling of boreholes as well as using bowsers to supply the commodity are part of the county’s plans to addressing the water problem. As the daily reports, during the dry season, the county will draw water from Lake Challa and Njoro kubwa canal and supply it to dry regions such as Maktau, Mwatate, Voi, Kasighau and Kishushe.
