Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has announced plans by international organisation, Medicins Sans Frontiers (MSF) or Doctors Without Borders to hire doctors for a Mombasa based hospital.
Joho on Saturday said the county government had partnered with the organisation in refurbishing the hospital as the devolved unit seeks to ensure residents get affordable and quick health services.
"The county government in partnership with Medicins Sans Frontiers has refurbished and expanded the Mrima hospital in Likoni sub county to an ultramodern, comprehensive emergency maternal and neonatal centre," he said.
The 46-bed capacity hospital, he said, will be equipped to a fully fledged maternity wing and a theatre and will cater for both inpatient and out patients.
"MSF is in the process of hiring medical staff to beef up the existing team. The one stop facility will also serve as training centre to healthcare professionals across the country," the former MP said.
Upon completion, the hospital is expected to reduce the burden on mothers who had to endure the pain of crossing the Likoni channel to seek medical attention at the Coast General Provincial Hospital.
One of Joho's key pillars as he embarks on serving his last term in office is to improve the health industry in the county.
