One of the youth said to be part of a criminal gang terrorizing residents of Mt Elgon sub county in Bungoma County has been arrested.
Alex Taboi was arrested by Uganda security personnel and handed over to Kenyan authorities at the Lwakhakha border point on Saturday.
He is said to have crossed over to Uganda after Kenyan police intensified a manhunt for him in the forested Mt Elgon area.
Taboi is said to be second in command after Timothy Kiptanui claimed to the leader of the militant group who activities have led to the death of at least 20 people with thousands being displaced.
The insecurity in the area is associated with land ownership and those targeted during the night attacks are people from communities hailing from outside Mt Elgon sub county.
Taboi's arrest comes four days after police put a Sh1 million bounty on Kiptanui.
On Wednesday, National Police Service (NPS) placed Sh1 million bounty on the head of Kiptanui who law enforcement agencies say is armed with several rifle and describes him as dangerous.
Turboi is currently held in an undisclosed military establishment as the manhunt for his boss, Kiptanui continues.
Leaders including Deputy President William Ruto, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet have visited Mt Elgon in the last three weeks over insecurity.
