A section of politicians from Mt Kenya region have pledged to support Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential.
According to the leaders, DP Ruto should pick a deputy from the region.
The leaders argue that they deserved to taste significant leadership positions in the Jubilee government going forward.
The leaders who spoke to the press during the commissioning of a new office for Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki at Kathwana on Friday, June 22, said they had a significant voting bloc that would determine the country's top leadership.
Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki said 2022 must be an opportunity for Ruto to appreciate the loyalty of the region to the Jubilee party.
Mbiuki said that Ruto should pick Senate Deputy Speaker and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki.
"Ruto has our full backing in his bid during the 2022 General Election but we first need him to consider having a running mate from Central Kenya. We particularly want him to consider a deputy from Mt Kenya East and we have an able leader in Kindiki," Mbiuki said.
On his part, Imenti Central MP Moses Kirema stated that the Mt Kenya East region was part of the larger Gikuyu, Embu and Meru Association but had not been sufficiently rewarded in terms of their contribution to the victory of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
