Leaders from the Mt Kenya region have continued the vowing streak in which they pledge to rally behind the leadership of Deputy President William Ruto for the top seat in 2022.
Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi told the Deputy President not to be dissuaded by some few individuals, whose focus was not on development, saying Mt Kenya region will back his presidential bid come 2022.
Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu said Mt Kenya region would play a greater role in ensuring Ruto took over from President Kenyatta when his term comes to an end in 2022.
“I want to assure the Deputy President to continue serving Kenyans and ignore those engaging in rhetoric’s,” said Waititu.
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria said voters in Central Kenya would not be misled to support another candidate apart from Ruto to take over from President Kenyatta.
“Issues of 2022 are over. We all know who will succeed President Kenyatta. It is none other than William Ruto and all the people of Central Kenya know this,” said Kuria.
Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu said Mt Kenya would fully support Ruto for the top seat when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term comes to an end in 2022.
Sakaja urged leaders to work together in addressing the challenges facing the people.
“Our leaders should know that our roles are never for our comforts of our own convenience but to serve the people,” said Mr. Sakaja.
The Deputy President also read the message of condolence from President Kenyatta who described the late Gicharu as brilliant and a strong woman with a prayerful heart.
“The late Mrs. Gicharu was a strong woman of faith who was humble, diligent and had value for education as she touched lives of many people in the society,” said President Kenyatta.
The DP was speaking during the burial of Alice Wambui Gicharu, who was the mother of the founder of Mount Kenya University Simon Gicharu in Kiambu County today (Saturday).
