A section of politicians from Mt Kenya region has pledged to support Deputy President William Ruto’s bid for Presidency in 2022.

MPs Gabriel Kago, Moses Kuria, Kimani Ichungwa, Senator Kimani Wamatangi, Simon Kingara and Patrick Wainaina said they would rally behind the leadership of Ruto for the top seat come 2022.

Senator Wamatangi told the deputy president not to be dissuaded by some few individuals, whose focus was not on development, saying Mt Kenya region will back his presidential bid come 2022.

Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu said Mt Kenya region would play a greater role in ensuring Ruto took over from President Kenyatta when his term comes to an end in 2022.

“I want to assure the Deputy President to continue serving Kenyans and ignore those engaging in rhetoric’s,” said Waititu.

Kuria said voters in Central Kenya would not be misled to support another candidate apart from Ruto to take over from President Kenyatta.

“Issues of 2022 are over. We all know who will succeed President Kenyatta. It is none other than William Ruto and all the people of Central Kenya know this,” said Kuria.

Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu said Mt Kenya would fully support Ruto for the top seat when President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term comes to an end in 2022.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja urged leaders to work together in addressing the challenges facing the people.

“Our leaders should know that our roles are never for our comforts of our own convenience but to serve the people,” said Sakaja.

The leaders were speaking at the burial of Alice Wambui Gicharu, the mother of Simon Gicharu, the founder of Mt Kenya University, at her Komothai home in Kiambu County on Saturday.
