President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party is set to endorse Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Various Mt Kenya politicians have been assuring the DP of the region support in 2022 despite claims that it will not be automatic for the DP to get support.
The Deputy President in order to solidify his bid has been meeting leaders across the country to strategize for the much anticipated 2022 polls.
According to Political analyst Peter Ngure, DP Ruto has a hard task as he prepares to contest in the 2022 polls.
There have been doubts on whether the Mt Kenya region will honor it promise to support DP Ruto.
Here are the likely Mt Kenya politicians to deputize Ruto in case the region backs his bid.
William Kabogo: He is the former Kiambu Governor and among experienced politician in Mt Kenya region.
Kabogo, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta last re-election in last year’s general election.
Political analysts argue that Kabogo is still relevant in as far as the 2022 succession politics is concerned.
He was once quoted saying that it will not be automatic for the region to support DP Ruto in 2022.
Anne Waiguru: She is the Kirinyaga governor serving her fist term after being elected in last year’s polls.
She is among three women politicians who were elected governor in last years polls.
Governor Waiguru resigned as Devolution Cabinet Secretary in 2015 over the corruption scandal that hit her ministry.
She is now a close ally of deputy president William Ruto.
Kimani Ichung’wa: He is the Kikuyu MP serving his second term.
An accountant by profession, the Jubilee MP is considered a close ally of DP Ruto.
The youthful politician has assured DP Ruto of Mt Kenya’s support in the much anticipated 2022 polls.
Peter Kenneth: A former Gatanga MP and cabinet Minister.
He unsuccessfully contested for the Nairobi governor seat in last year’s polls.
Martha Karua: She is among the experienced veteran and experienced Mt Kenya politicians.
Karua unsuccessfully contested for the Kirinyaga governor seat in last year’s polls.
She was a presidential candidate in the 2013 general election and is considered a critic of the Jubilee government.
Peter Munya: He is the former Meru governor and Council of Governor (COG) Chairman.
Munya lost re-election to his fierce critic Kiraitu Murungi in last year’s polls.
He was, however, appointed as East Africa Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Munya has declared interest in the 2022 presidential election.
