A section of political aspirants from the Mt Kenya region have threatened to ditch Jubilee Party over the September 10 delegates’ conference.
More than 50 hopefuls for different seats claim there is biased representation at the conference next month.
The politicians say they would seek other options since the nomination process would be flawed.
Wambugu Nyamu, the Nyeri senatorial aspirant who spoke on behalf of the aspirants at Greenhills Hotel said those occupying the seats now would disadvantage them since the incumbents would become automatic members of the party’s leadership team.
“After the delegate’s conference, we are aware that the incumbents will be automatic members of the county Jubilee Party team and will provide delegates to attend. This will give the incumbents an undue advantage over the aspirants, which to us is undemocratic,” said Machira Gichohi who is seeking to unseat Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua.
Already, Meru Governor Peter Munya is sceptical that the nomination process would be biased.
Last week, Munya said that Jubilee Party would erode political gains on freedoms that politicians should enjoy when it comes to exercises like nominations.
The boat is rocking in the Jubilee Party which is yet to be officially launched.
