A group of legislators drawn from Mt Kenya region have praised Deputy President William Ruto for remaining loyal and supportive to President Uhuru Kenyatta since 2013.
Led by Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, the lawmakers vowed to return the favor in 2022 when Ruto is expected to make a stab at the presidency.
"We as Mt Kenya, and specifically Murang'a county, sincerely thank the DP for standing with our son and leader in his first term, and even now, despite the few hurdles in the re-election bid," he stated.
DP Ruto has on numerous occasions declared his interest in the presidency after President Uhuru Kenyatta's term.
Previously, there have been doubts if the Mt Kenya region would back Ruto's bid, with political pundits arguing that Central Kenya have a political history of backing "their own."
Ruto teamed up with Uhuru in the run up to the 2013 general elections, controversially beating the then Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka.
