Mto Mawe bridge that connects Athi River town to Kinanie is on the verge of collapsing.
The bridge is in a very pathetic state since it's basement is heavily eroded, thanks to the heavy downpour for the past days that has made Mto Mawe overflow its banks.
The bridge is not raised high enough and sometimes the river flows above it rendering it impassable.
Many times, during rainy seasons the immersed bridge has made it impossible for motorists and pedestrians to cross over to and from Kinanie to Athi River.
The bridge requires a skilled driver and extra-careful pedestrians as it does not have safety side grills.
A vehicle or a motorcycle can easily veer off and plunge into the waters below.
Relevant authorities seem to have turned a blind eye and are now watching helplessly as the bridge is eroded away.
It will not take a lot of time before a terrible fatal accident happens at the bridge.
The dilapidated state of the road is only making matters worse.
